Defining Deployment

The word deployment basically means to set up or install which is a military term that refers to the installment of troops. As far as Six Sigma is concerned, the term refers to the deployment of people in order to execute a Six Sigma project. Considering the fact that Six Sigma does not deal with routine works, deployment in Six Sigma is seen as a very important step for a firm that follows or adopts the Six Sigma principles. Six Sigma tries to reduce the defects and tries to improve the process. This refers to the deviation from executing the routine works of an organization to taking initiatives to improve the process. Six Sigma is an effort which needs each and every member of the team to get involved into the process.

Since Six Sigma is more like a digression from the routine works, it is important for the top level management to get involved to motivate the people who are operating on the project. It is a fact that many people feel reluctant to adopt something new. This is when the top level management needs to play a key role to communicate with the work force and inform them regarding the benefits of the project. They should clarify the objectives of the project and should motivate the team members to accept or adopt the changes easily.

The leadership has to make sure that the stakeholder groups (including the customers, employees, shareholders and suppliers) have a clear idea about the Six Sigma plans so that the vision is accepted by the parties involved or related with the process. A properly defined method of communication has to be placed since Six Sigma involves bringing in cultural modifications into the organization. Proper communication takes away the fear which is related to the change and it should play an important role to ensure that people are prepared to accept changes that may take place. All the doubts are needed to be removed regarding the project which is another responsibility of the management. The management needs to send a strong statement to the involved parties that the organization is very much committed to the Six Sigma project.

Problems can rise in the long run if the communication is not done properly and therefore any communication gap that may exist should be eliminated. At the same time, the responsibilities of each and every individual, as well as the polices and tools that are required to be adopted should be properly communicated.
