Define Critical Thinking

Critical thinking can be defined as a clear, analytic thinking involving criticism. Critical thinking is a disciplined process of actively and skilfully analysing, producing, applying, theorizing, and estimating information gathered from rationalizing, observation, consideration, and communication as a guide to trust and accomplishment. Critical thinking refers to thinking about one’s thinking in such a manner that is designed to organize and elucidate, raise the efficiency of, and recognize partialities in one’s own thinking. Critical thinking is not hard thinking and nor it is directed at solving problems other than improving one’s own thinking. Critical thinking is internally focussed with the intent of maximizing the rationality of the thinker. One does not use critical thinking to solve problems but rather uses it to improve one’s own process of thinking. Critical thinking helps in identifying problems and in finding practical means to solve those problems. It enables you to understand the importance of prioritizing and order of preference in problem solving. It enables you to gather relevant information and recognize unstated assumptions and values. It helps you in interpreting data in order to appraise evidence and evaluate arguments. It draws justified decisions and generalities and puts those decisions to test. It enables you to restructure and render accurate judgements about particular things and potentials in life.
